The Effect of Geographical Factors on Islamic Banking Sustainability Performance: An Instrumental Variable Quantile Regression Analysis

چکیده

There is an ongoing debate on how Islamic banks contribute to bank sustainability. Theoretically, ethics promote sustainability, also called Maqasid al-shari'ah. This paper investigates the effect of geographical factors A theoretical and empirical model was developed assess this relationship. It hypothesized that affect Countries in specific locations are dominated by rules, such as Middle East, have different magnitudes compared east Asian countries fewer rules. risk according al-Shari'ah concept employed based a microeconomic banking portrays variety risks for 159 ten countries. We constructed variables from macroeconomic databases, World Development Indicators, financial indicators environmental, social, governance (ESG) data Thomson Reuters 2012 2019. The analysis conducted using panel instrumental variable regression test hypothesis; however, produced biased results affecting financing. method refined with IV quantile regression. found strongly related improvement financing East regions, whereas eastern regions vice versa. indicate geopolitical stimulate Sustainable Goals.

Instrumental Variable Quantile Regression * †

Quantile regression is an increasingly important tool that estimates the conditional quantiles of a response Y given a vector of regressors D. It usefully generalizes Laplace’s median regression and can be used to measure the effect of covariates not only in the center of a distribution, but also in the upper and lower tails. For the linear quantile model defined by Y = D′γ(U) where D′γ(U) is s...

Sieve Instrumental Variable Quantile Regression Estimation of Functional Coefficient Models∗

In this paper, we consider sieve instrumental variable quantile regression (IVQR) estimation of functional coefficient models where the coefficients of endogenous regressors are unknown functions of some exogenous covariates. We approximate the unknown functional coefficients by some basis functions and estimate them by the IVQR technique. We establish the uniform consistency and asymptotic nor...

A branch-and-bound algorithm for instrumental variable quantile regression

This paper studies a statistical problem called instrumental variable quantile regression (IVQR). We model IVQR as a convex quadratic program with complementarity constraints and—although this type of program is generally NP-hard—we develop a branch-and-bound algorithm to solve it globally. We also derive bounds on key variables in the problem, which are valid asymptotically for increasing samp...

Instrumental Variable Quantile Regression: A Robust Inference Approach

In this paper, we develop robust inference procedures for an instrumental variables model defined by Y = D′α(U) where D′α(U) is strictly increasing in U and U is a uniform variable that may depend onD but is independent of a set of instrumental variables Z. The proposed inferential procedures are computationally convenient in typical applications and can be carried out using software available ...

The Impact of 401(k) Participation on the Wealth Distribution: an Instrumental Quantile Regression Analysis

In this paper, we use the instrumental quantile regression approach developed in Chernozhukov and Hansen (2001) to examine the effects of 401(k) plans on wealth using data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation. Using 401(k) eligibility as an instrument for 401(k) participation, we estimate the quantile treatment effects of participation in a 401(k) plan on several measures of weal...
